One of my favorite songs recorded by Louis Jordan. I picked up a copy of this recording from a friend who has literally 1,000's of unreleased versions of various swing, jump blues, and rockabilly cuts. Enjoy this cut which you will notice is not the version normally found on previously released albums.

problem is right now it invokes emotions of racial prejudice, they were all booked on charges of suspicion... OF WHAT?? anyhow you got to love the struggle as a lot of positive was born out of it

"...Over in the corner was a piano grad played by a big fat piano man!" Damn, I love that line so much, and this song has particularly comical lyrics, well, it is Louis Jordan anyhow.

To me, as a Rock 'N' Roll historian (Taught it in a college course) this the true first ever Rock 'N" Roll song. Now I know there were many songs before it that mentioned the words Rock words Rock, Roll and combinations of the two. But this particular song had all the elements of it. Just magnificent!

Released in 1949 and thought to be the first ever Rock 'n Roll song to hit the scene.

THANKYOU for sharing this rare cut of Very Historically important, good & fun music by the VERY IMPORTANT ARTIST in the transition from Jazz to Rock n' Roll................... I believe this and Caledonia are THE VERY FIRST roots of Rock n Roll... any dissent or education I need?? Note the electric guitar licks and in other versions - "they was rockin' and (reelin' or rollin') to the break of dawn... A Dios.... Thanks Again.....

Joni Mitchell sent me here. In a 1988 interview she was asked to select & comment on her favorite songs, the ones that “thrilled her” or “knocked her socks off” from her childhood to the (then) present. This song by Louis Jordan was one of her 12 picks. Nice pick. Thanks Joni.

I've heard many renditions of this song over the years. It's nice to know who made it popular!

I came to Louis Jordan thru Joe Jackson and his album, "Jumpin' Jive". He suggested that if you like the music on the album to go buy Louis Jordan music. Wow, what fantastic music and performances.

"To my recollection, Louis Jordan was the first one that I hear play rock and roll." --Chuck Berry, perhaps making a reference to Louis Jordan's 1949 hit Saturday Night Fish Fry. Everyone word understandable and intelligently written. Instruments well played. Recording well produced. Social commentary, but also funny. The birth of Rock and Roll.Nineteen. Forty. Nine. Thanks so much for posting, mrspats1. PS: Can anyone tell me the Jordan jump blues song that is the original source for Van Halen's Jump, released in 1983?
