Being 17 and growing up in a small town right now, I can say this is probably the closest thing to the soundstrack of my life, if I had to pick one. Rest in peace, Lou.

I played this song for my artistic kid who hates our small town.

They should do a song about the big city. Maybe not just New York, but just a in general life about growing up in the city.

It was a kind of symbiotic relationship. Up to a point. When Reed broke with Warhol it was tragic and he would always regret it, hence the album, but i don't think either would have been as successful without the other.

One of my favorite songs of all time... written about Warhol, but it resonates with many people who grew up wanting to escape from life in a small town.

I absolutely agree that Warhol was in no way John Cale's musical mentor. As far as I know Warhol, though a music lover, was not a musician. However, that is simply one form of mentoring. Warhol's savvy was at gaining attention, creating media interest and spectacle. Warhol was not only good at this, he was a master. Reed and Cale did not just momentarily benefit from Warhol's talents while together in VU; they learned and borrowed these skills and used them the rest of their careers.

You can hardly call Warhol John Cale's mentor. Cale is a classically trained musician and worked with musicians like John Cage before the Velvet Underground.
