Thanks for that. Brings back great memories. One of which was going to penrith to play footy and the only songs we all knew were Ligtning Strikes and 1-2-3.

Right out of the horse's mouth. You tell em Randy! 100 to 1 ratio on likes to dislikes. A great song indeed.

I saw him live years ago and was disappointed. Silly me I guess I expected him to hit those high notes forever. Instead he pointed the mike at the audience.

Just to add a thought about why these short songs from the early 60s were so good: I read they had to keep them short to fit the AM radio protocol. They had to keep re-writing to condense their songs, which made them better!I once had an English professor who wanted just one typed page a week. But it had to be perfect. I remember constantly re-writing and taking out every unnecessary word. My writing improved the most from that exercise. This is just a theory, of course.

Thanks! Brings back memories. It's amazing in its simplicity and beauty. Proves one does't need complicated effects and equipment to write a good song.

This was the number one song in 1966. I remembering listening to this on my transistor radio back in 1966 when I was 12 years old. Now that I'm 61. This song still sounds as fresh to me now then it did back 49 years ago. Priceless!
