Except for that little slip up, to me, Loretta sings this song just as good as Jeannie C Reilly. I remember when I was a kid watching Harper Valley PTA on TV. I really enjoyed it, not just because Barbara Eden was in it ( I love Barbara Eden ) but that she was a single parent raising her daughter, something that I went through after my parents divorced when I was 4 years old and my Mother and Grandmother raised my younger brother and myself. It was only on for 2 seasons ( 1981 and 1982 ) and when I ask around people don't remember it that much, but Gilligans Island was only on TV for 3 years and people would sit and talk , in detail, just about every single episode. Maybe the writing wasn't all that great for Harper Valley PTA OR something more popular was on one of the other 2 major networks at the same time...???

Drunk? On drugs? My word that's just what Loretta was like back then. She's having fun with it. You try reading those cue cards. She'd sing her own songs at her concerts, the covers were just there to fill up the albums. That's just how they did it back then. I wonder how the other singers felt about that back then because I can't be the only one who likes Loretta's cover better 90% of the time.
