Our Dad provided for his 5 children and never opened his wage packet during the 1940's, our mother opened the packet and gave our father 3 shillings for 10 cigarettes. During the late 1950's Dad built his own TV then during the 1960's committed suicide because he was unhappy when he lost his Job and our next door neighbour also committed suicide because he too lost his Job when the railways began to close.
