Greil Marcus selected this track by Lonnie Mack as one of the great vocals in rock n roll and he detailed why in his 2009 lecture "The Songs Left Out of "The Ballad of Sexual Dependency". Greil described 'Why?' thus: "a soul ballad so torturous, so classically structured, that it can uncover wounds of your own. Mack's scream at the end has never been matched, God help us if anyone ever tops it".

Greil Marcus is right and as such it is only correct that it exists on YouTube for all to behold.

I have never been without this album. I have moved around constantly and lost it many times but I always did what was needed to get it back. I saw Lonnie Live- probably on the promotional tour for this album. He was the first REAL guitarist that I ever saw. Shortly after thatI saw Freddy King, then Chuck Berry, I was hooked. LONG LIVE ROCK N ROLL.

Lonnie was the first "fast" player I ever heard and saw live and he blew me away. He didn't get any recognition except from die-hard music lovers.

Mack changed what playing lead guitar was about in 1963. It's a shame he never got the recognition he should have. Can you believe he's not in the R&R Hall of Fame and ABBA is! I got this album when it came out, I was 15 and haven't been without it ever since. It's in my favorite 10 albums of all time.

Great stuff - you can hear where some of Clapton's influences come from.
