I keep hearing that piano riff start on the upbeat of 4, but it's the upbeat of 1 - even harder because he starts the song unaccompanied, so there's no drum to latch onto. But I get it about ignoring the vocal, it works! Glad I don't have to play and sing this at the same time though. Thanks!

Sorry, I just posted (then deleted) a response to a different question! Anyway, I agree -- the timing of this song is very odd. To play along with it, I had to completely tune out the vocal.

@jeffj257 Just heard about that this morning. He was unspeakably talented, and I think he played virtually all the instruments on Linda Ronstadt's biggest hits in the '70s. He was so great, I even forgive him for doing the theme song to Mad About You.

@Baci302 Thanks much. The Strat is about 10 years old, and for this one I used an Electroharmonix Small Stone phase shifter, with the rate and levels both turned all the way down to zero. The gain on the amp is set at about 6 (which is pretty high for me), but then I turned the volume knob on the guitar down to control the saturation.
