This particular version, here, is a vinyl stereo track from the LP "Lolita - Seemannslieder" and it is a beautifully done updated 1973 re-recording by Austrian singer Lolita of her international huge hit from 1960.

When this was first aired in 1960 I was just twelve and knew no German but loved the song anyway. After taking one year of it in high school and later becoming a sailor myself after recording it to listen to while away- then many years later reading the lyrics online I was able to learn some 85% of it and look up the rest. What was at first a beautiful song now gives me chills to listen to and knowing the meaning especially the second verse literally takes my breath way. Fantastic piece of work but the power is still in the original cut IMO.9 years ago
