David's Broadway Station

Who can ever forget that wondrous scene in Penny Marshall's "Big" where Josh and Mr. MacMillan play Hoagy Carmichael's "Heart and Soul" on that gigantic electronic keyboard. That sense of fun is what created that fuzzy feeling for the audience. Likewise, as you will hear in the next Maltby & Shire composition, (In a good way) that warm fuzzy feeling is most certainly achieved with lyrical and melodic craftsmanship. Yes Arne, it's a rhetorical question! Have you picked out the ring yet for your bride to be yet Mr Durang? We'll miss you while your honeymooning in Bora Bora. I had the wonderful privilege of seeing Maltby and Shire's musical "Big" based on the Tom Hanks movie. For me, It was a delightful theater going experience. This morning, Liz Callaway sings "Stop, Time" featured on the album "On And Off Broadway" from Varèse Sarabande. The message in this lyric has a conversational storytelling tone that perfectly suits the bittersweet pure intention of this wonderful song. Here's a short essay that I wrote about intentionTrue intentionsMost of the time your intentions are much more important than your own selfish egoic needs. Your intention to take responsibility for your actions and verbiage are all important because your intentions are manifested when you act or talk. To love someone completely is to surrender to and honor their very being without regard toYour own selfish wants. To be selfless is to be in an unconditional state of blissful love. As a consequence, that unconditional love turns into an extremely pure and beautiful way to love. To indulge in egoic behavior is to turn away from the most beautiful and poetic facet of true intention. Most of the time, sublimation, involving some aspect of creativity, is imbued with righteous intention. This is what I have learned.I shared this essay with you because I know that Maltby's lyrics always contain pure intention and the gift of Love. We'll be back with music from one of my very favorite movies starring one of my very favorite actresses: Miss Marsha Mason! This is DBS! .
