In 1953, Steve Allen adapted Little Red Riding Hood into a Grimm fairy tale for hip kids, told by Al "Jazzbo" Collins and accompanied by jazz pianist Lou Stein. This is a classic hip story. Enjoy!

I inherited the Steve Allen 78s from my uncle in the 1960's - Cinderella and Goldilocks told by Steve.Fantastic.

What memories. I worked at KFI when Al was there, and had the pleasure getting to know him and at his request, produced a four hour special on Radio's Golden Years. When there was a sudden fad for men's jump suits, Al wanted one but said he couldn't find exactly what he was looking for. So after describing same to me .... I told him since my family owned a fabric store I'd find something. Did better than that in the end. My mother made him a couple which he wore all the time. Al was rather a round fellow and the suits he favored really almost looked like a table cloth due to the pattern and color. But he was happy so that's all that mattered. He was truly a joy to be around.  He had a Porche which wasn't painted as any normal car. Oh no.  It was covered in some sort of fuzz stuck on to it. I don't know how else to describe it.  Reading KFI's history at Wikipedia I was sorely disappointed that they did not acknowledge Al working at KFI. Neither did they mention Scott Ellsworth. I tried to edit there but wasn't successful.

My mom had this 45 rpm, and my sister and I thought it was hilarious when we were kids. It's still pretty hip, after all these years. Thanks for sharing.

This track actually charted for two weeks starting August 8, 1953 -- peaking at #22. The flip side, "The Three Little Pigs," also charted at #22 the week of August 29, 1953.

I'm glad he delivered this straight without affectation. I can like the opposite too, to wit Lorenzo St. Dubois.
