The genesis as to their movements on stage? They opened for the Jackson 5 on tour for the first couple of years after they signed with Motown.

I dug several drummers throughout the seventies; Gino Vanelli's drummer, Mark Craney(RIP), Johnny Guitar Watson's drummer, Emery Thomas and Commodores skinsman Walter(Clyde) Orange. These were some bad muthas!

The Commodores was another great band from the funk era. You would have to say they were one of the great funk bands of that era. I remember the song cebu. I gravitated to that song because of the drum solo. During that time I was a young and upcoming drummer. I was simply amazed by The drummer Walter Clyde Orange. He had a wicked beat and also played a double bass drum set. You would have to say that The Commodores was on of the top bands of that era.

listen y"all walter did a couple of leads on joints the I actually dug, but loinel was the group hands down. I appreciate the funky vocals he brung to the game. I stopped fuckin with him when he went solo and started makin that slow pop shit, but I can dig a brothers goota eat. He wouldnt have made that bread had he stayed with the commordores

And, to have started out at MOTOWN, as the openning act/group, for the Jackson 5, shows just how much talent was once at MOTOWN. GREATNESS.

Seen them in Detroit Joe Louis Arena 1979 as a kid remember looking around the crowd and being amazed by the diversity of the crowd age and race.

I haven't seen that footage in a long time, it was nice to see though. It is a shame because so much time as past, it isn't like Lionel can't tour again afterwards so I really don't understand.

Yeah, I remember that....It was Tommy (guitarist) & Ronald (bassist). Rich was @ the Essense Festival in New Orleans. there was footage here but.....you know how things go down sometimes on YT.

I agree, some many bands from this era are losing members and/or unable to reconcile. I think Lionel had one of the members on stage with him during one of his recent tours, the guitarist. I was thinking as to why these guys don't reunite for a couple of years, make it interesting for the fans.

The deeper bigger, question is; Will the Commodores reunite before they lose another member?. It used to be 6,now there's 5.Kids today STILL need to be taught & SHOWN what REAL MUSIC is. Lionel needs to stop procrassinating & get this reunion together of those who remain....Or he or the guys'll be on their deathbed sayin' "DAMN, WHYdidn't we reunite for the FANS, make another album,tour...just one more time?". I as a fan of this band don't wanna hear or see that happen.
