Yeah, a lot of people who don't really know squat about music seem to have that opinion of Kurt, both as a singer and as a guitar player (so I understand if you assumed I was assuming =P). IF he would have used harmful technique, his voice would have been gone after one day or so and he definately wouldn't been able to sing in Nirvana for 7 years with a gigging/touring schedule as busy as theirs. People often seem to mistake self-taught singing for poor technique.

Of course not, he's one of my all-time favorite singers and I've been trying for years to find a singer who teaches those techniques properly. I said "had went music school" because I know Kurt didn't and I'm pretty sure Chester did, because of the way he sings clean vocals. I heard Kurt damaged his voice sometimes though, especially in the studio. On the last chorus of Smells Like Teen Spirit, you can hear how sore he is. Still, I was talking schooling more in the stylistic sense than quality.

'If Kurt Cobain had went music school' I hope you are not assuming Kurt Cobain is not a good singer. It might sound sloppy, but Kurt is one of the best rock/grunge singers of all time. Since he never damaged his voice doing so. Chester praises Kurt for that a lot, however, Chris Cornell remains the best rock singer so far. (Audioslave, Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog)
