Gene Perez is perhaps the most criminally underrated bass player since the 90s. He's played with just about every fancy star you can think of (how does Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey sound for starters ?), and more or less self-handled created the way electric bass is played in house music through his work with Masters At Work.
This is one of my favorite basslines from him, and it's really a toughie. Pumping relentless 16ths at this tempo can be a real hassle if you don't stay relaxed enough, plus layin down fills is somewhat do or die: hesitating for one note equals ruining the groove.
I'll try to post some more soon. Gene Perez really is among my heroes.
