The best version of Never In My Life ever recorded, in my opinion. Leslie was just on fire on this tour. Recorded during the "Night of the Guitar" event at Hammersmith Odeon in London on Nov. 26, 1988.

I LOVE MOUNTAIN! I wish Les would lay off the whammy bar though? I my opinion, and as a guitar player, It changes his vibrato in a way that seems to affect his natural style? I know from myself, and other guitar guitarists I listen to, once you get a wammy bar, you will over do it because its there, again IMO. The shredders start from the beginning, like Satch, Vai, etc...I like it when Les squose every oz of tone from the LP junior he played! I miss Felix R.I.P.

You don't have to shred thousands of notes to be great.

I ran into Leslie at a "old mans bar" after hitting the strip clubs on Rt 110 one night in Farmingdale L.I. it was 1969. I was driving home at 2AM loaded and I heard this wailing guitar while I sat at a red light. being in my own band I said to myself "man I have to go in and check that out," it was  leslie West. he  was playing a les paul jr. by himself with a small marshall amp on a one foot high triangle platform in the corner of the bar, I sat  had a beer & watched him play.. as I left  I said to him, "that was great man" he said thanks and that he was there to help out a friend. I left and don't remember anything more than that but I was lucky to meet him one on one.. true story !

The Steinberger is great in Leslie's hands, but nothing beats the sound of his early Les Paul Jr.

One of my fave live guitar displays on a Steinberger with whammy bar (not his traditional axe). West opens with a couple tasty tidbits before launching into Never In My Life.
