The emotion this song evokes is multiplied tenfold every time Cohen sings this live.

Cohens 2nd, 1988 version moved away from the more obvious biblical references. This version is about love, his other more covered version is about faith. A poignant paring because...the moment one looses faith (be it in religion or oneselves) you are incapable of experiencing love in its purest form, and when you lose faith, you are unable to believe in love. Faith and love- that's all we really need and thats all we really have to fight all the bad in the big world and in our own worlds.

If you want to listen to a seducing and beautiful sung song, choose any of the other versions of this song. If you are in the situation that you want to FEEL this song in all it`s meaning, the Cohen ones are the ONLY versions that do it to you. At least that is my opinion.

"Not the abandoned laughter of someone who claims to have seen the light..." This version is stunning! Pay no mind to the comment below Mollkatless... that person clearly has no reverence for such a raw, emotional out-pour. It's as if the song itself as well as the lyrics were breathing life into Leonard Cohen, and not the other way around. I can think of no other way to describe this performance... positively stunning!!

As described above a beautiful and impassioned performance of Hallelujah. Couldn't agree more with mollkatless.lareedsucks is a moron with no taste, must have gotten lost looking for his idol justin bieber and to gledson ,this is not his version you ignorant ignoramus because he wrote the wrote the song.Everyone else who sings it are doing a "version" of the song.
