Leon Russell, you are so amazing! I have been to countless rock concerts in the past 43 years or so, and I recall yours as one of the very best! In those days it was common to work my way up to standing in the front row (everyone on the floor was standing--no seats) and you looked me right in the eye. That moved me.....and kinda scared me at the tender age of 16. Your concert went on and on, for over 3 hours. Love you Leon!!

I'm of the exact age to have seen the birth and explosion of rock n roll - I listened to Buddy Holly on the radio when his songs were new - I was on board from day one. I've seen almost every major act from then to now - hundreds of shows. I saw the Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour in Winterland. The very best performers project an irresistible, inescapable power that feels like being run over by a steamroller, but in a good way - who knew that being flattened like a cartoon character could be so much fun? Leon Russell has that power by the trainload - the minute he sits down on the bench and makes that first throw-away run to the end of the encore, the master just opens up and lets you witness the fire that few on this earth possess - you just feel lucky you found your way to be there. God bless him...

The Union is a very good album. Along with a bunch of Leon Russell tunes, it's in my portable player that keeps me company while I clean up the big orange box at night.

Notice nobody asks Joe Cocker what his opinion of Leon might be? Perhaps no so glowing as Sir Elton's
