Album - Leo Kottke Anthology

Pamela Brown

I wasn't aware that Tom T. Hall wrote this song until one of the viewers of this song enlightened me. I feel that Leo took his song and made it his own. A song many men can relate to, whatever the name of their lost love was

I had the privilege of meeting and talking to Leo in Shreveport, Louisiana, in 1988. Amazing musician...

The country-great, Don Williams, always seemed to make other songs sound better when he recorded them. maybe, like Leo Kottke, he kept the arrangements spare so you could enjoy the music and lyrics. This is one of my favorites.. I'm going have to rummage through the closet and find all my old Leo Kottke albums. Thanks for reminding me what really GOOD music is.

Yes Tom T. Hall (as in the Legendary) wrote Pamela Brown, but as I commented on another UTube version (when he was younger) Leo always seemed to own it. Love that big open tuning sound with the bottleneck (knife) slide guitar. Just banging away.

His voice sounds like geese farts on a muggy day. Love it! Saw him in '73 at the Ozark Mt Folk Festival along w/ John Lee Hooker.

MY Pamela Brown story: She was a telephone operator in Vineyard Haven circa 1960 and I was moving around the Island doing various mostly hotel and restaurant kitchen jobs. I dated her maybe 10 times and I got dumped for a wanna be tennis pro who drove a pick-up truck. When I first heard Leo do this song many years later I was stabbed in the heart and my throat seized up badly. The tears came later. My take on the song is that Tom wanted us to feel regret for Pamela's choice. I know that I do.

@jappychap2002 Thanks for commenting on Pamela Brown. Like a lot of Leo's music he borrows from others and makes the music inherently Leo. With all the music he's done I still keep hoping to hear more

@Larry Mills, Thanks so much for viewing and commenting on Pamela Brown. Yes, Leo and I go way back and even at a young age I could tell the quality of Leo's guitar playing and I loved his selection of music to play.

The great leo Kottke, Thanks Art. Went through a few 8-tracks companions of such. Stopping to smell the flowers and not watching it die in your vase is what it taught me. No regrets.

The Legendary Tom T. Hall wrote this song and did a great recording. But to me, Leo K. has always owned it. One of my all time favorites - saw him play it live years ago. That 12-string & bottle neck guitar just banging out all that sound. Once you hear it it just keeps running through you. Rocky man

Back in the 70's I was the manager of a college radio station. We had this album, and the staff would play this cut at least once every day. Have not heard it in 30 something years, what a great memory. Leo is such a great artist.
