For anyone who cares, Leroy Parnell never claimed to be a singer. He was asked to sing a few songs and he did. I, myself think he was great and I did get to see him in person. But, let it be known that Leroy ,is a gifted guitar player and that's what he wants to be known as. You can't say he's not good at that.

I saw him at the Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland and in Mentor a few years before that in his "Strat" days. He is fantastic. I just wish he would mix playing his Les Paul and his Strat together on stage. It's always fun to have more than one "Paint Brush" to create aural landscapes with. Lots of ************* to him.

Listen to that guitar!!

Actually, I don't hear a lot harmony or backup singing in the background of this, so that does add to the song sometimes too. He still sounds good.

I think he sounds fine. Maybe he was a little tired, I would imagine traveling all the time would do that to people.

No matter what,He is STILL LRP. Yeah I've seen him "wasted" playing with a COMPLETELY "other" band at a stupid amusement/water park with a Gold Top L.P.and some slant front Marshal and was as GREAT as anything you would hear on a CD.He's only played these tunes about 10,000 times or more. Can YOU say that?? The MAN is GOOD no matter what "condition" he's in, Besides,he's a new father now an I figure THAT is what MATTERS...

OK.. fair enough.. at least you are gracious enough to apologize.. so thanks fer that. So many people get all critical on this site... and it can get purty ugly at times. At least we didn't get into a Troll-ish exchange. I am kinda new to LP's stuff... so I am obviously not as familiar w/ him as you.I like his slide playing a lot. Who knows... maybe he wasn't getting a good monitor-mix. I still don't think this perf. was all THAT bad, tho!

Yeah, I figured I would get some kind of blow back from those remarks. And yeah, it was a "dick" thing to say, so again, my apologies. But I seriously can't believe you can't hear the intunation all through the vocal. I still stand by my original post/assessment of the performance. It was sub-par by any professional standard of measure.

hmm... I guess all that is left to say is... you are kind of a DICK.

Pitch is fine? He's pitchy all the way thru this train wreck of a vocal performance. Yeah, his pitch is fine when he was actually ON pitch, but there are plenty of flat notes all thru this thing. Slurring words is no display of stylistic performance, it's called being loaded. You might want to stick to guitar, because you have no ear for vocals. You might want to invest in a tuner, cuz you obviously don't have an ear for tuning. Ok, that was harsh. My apologies. Really, you can't hear that?

Either Lee Roy was a little drunk, or he just didn't care about his vocal performance. Neither is excusable...especially when you're being video taped. Maybe he was playing to an almost empty studio and didn't have the inspiration of a live audience. Nonetheless, he's a professional. No excuses. I give him an A on guitar and a C-, maybe a D on vocal performance. Listen to the original album version and compare. The vocal is the primary feature in every song that has vocals, not the guitar.

Yeah, maybe I'm a little hard on him, but he just didn't seem focused. Alcohol will do that. As for his playing...he's been doin' it for a long time...it's probably on auto-pilot. I don't know, if I were making a video that would last into perpetuity, I would try to make it my best performance. He didn't seem to care that much on the vocal front. He was pitchy, late to come in, therby changing the melody (which is a typical stylistic live trait) but you shouldn't change the melody that much.

wow, man.... yer bein' just a little hard on L.P., ain't ya?? I don't think this is bad at all... in fact, I like it. I don't really think L.P. could play slide like this if he were loaded. I say this as a guitar player myself, who has tried a little slide- and just WISH I could play like this guy !! Yeah, he is a little slurry on the vocal, but to me that is a stylistic thang.. his pitch is fine !!

Damn Lee Roy, WTF? What, were you drunk? I saw Lee Roy in Dallas in '94. He was friggin great! He sounds drunk in this video. Sad, cuz I think he's one of the best ever. I put him in my top 5 country singers of all time, but not based on this performance. Shame. There's only one other cut of this song on youtube (original video), but the quality is lacking. However, it's better than this crap. Guitar was adequate, but vocals sucked. Melody all over the place, he was often flat, mumbling...

There is no like Lee Roy Parnell. Saw him at Crown Casino in Melbourne Australia circa 2004 and wish he'd come back to our country.
