Of all of the videos I've watched you in whether it be demoing stuff or explaining stuff, this is by far and away the most informative and also entertaining couple of videos that you've made!!!!!!! Thank you for finally explaining the modes in a way that didn't bore the sh!t out of me and make me lose interest. I pity any poor b@stards out there that don't understand the modes and haven't found this video yet!!!!! Thanks mate. Keep up the good work!!!!

Hey dude, thanks a lot for this lesson. It really helps to understand the modes accustically. However, I still do not have a clue how to integrate ths into songwriting. You switch key all the time. How can I do this while staying in the same key? And how do I use this when I add chords+melody together? I still am confused about the modes and havent found a video that truly enlightens me :(

Rob Chapman... You frizzy haired genius you. Do you realize how good this lesson is? It's is easily the best, most practical and concise lesson ever published. That is not hyperbole.

Finally I can understand this!! Thanks a lot!But there's something I need to ask.I was practicing the Phrygian, with E, just like the exemple. Playing it, the use of the G# and the D# are so damn good sounding! The scale became E, F(2m), G(3m), G#(3), A(4), B(5), C(6m), D(7m) and D#(7M)... Is there any fundament on this addings on the scale?

Here is where i get lost. No one seems to explain progressions. OK. We are playing in E major. Song starts in C#minor for 8 bars. Then next i will choose G# minor for 4 bars, then I will resolve to E major for 4 bars [measures]. This progression is hypothetical and random. I choose F# Dorian to play over C#minor. For G#minor, how 'bout B major. For E major i will begin and end on an A note. I hope i did this correctly. If we start on C# minor is F# still Dorian or has it now become the 4the mode of C# minor? Personally I would just play in E major over this progression.E,F#,G#,A,B,C#,D#, and not confuse myself with mode names but, for the sake of understanding, could someone break down my example.

Since learning all the positions for the pentatonic, I found this lesson much easier to do and understand. It feels like a massive world has been opened for me since I go into learning about scales and modes. My ear is picking out things I have never really managed. After playing just a few songs for 19-20 years, I am now able to play with backing tracks.
