Laura Veirs is one of the best kept secrets of the music industry and although she's blindingly talented, almost nobody knows her in Europe. Hopefully this will change with the release of her brand new album ("July Flame") later this month, but until then let's fall back in love again with her 2007 release titled "Saltbreakers".

Track 8.

I see a snowy nighttime field with 2 million stars then it switches to a kids crude xmas performance and they sing the chorus part.....

Just got an email from the official Laura Veirs mailing list (New Year's Eve show in Portland OR) and it reminded me how much I love this song, *To The Country*

This song is so beautiful. I'm trying to hold myself back from forcing it down my friends throats so that they don't hate her because of me but they just have to hear this. It's flawless.

@ZackaryLoves you're very right, this one definitely does sound pretty sufjan-y. the phrasing of the vocal parts alone screams "chicago." still, if you're going to imitate someone, you could do worse than sufjan. plus bill frisell and eyvind kang are throwing down, which kind of automatically makes it a must listen.

Not only do I share the song's sentiment, I just love the music. All of her music is wonderful. Love the clapping used as percussion! Does anyone else see an open field underneath an endless blue-black sky just loaded with stars?
