Actually Chad himself admitted years ago in an interview, his job is to "lace-up" the beat Pharrell makes. To follow mentioned term in a short analogy, Pharrell is responsible for sole, vamp and heel, while Chad is in charge of the lacing, lining and welt. One part missing and it won't be a shoe. That example by no means adjudicate Pharrell as the better one, but Chad's role in Neptunes has been described as such. Though in other projects outside Neptunes, Chad is a whole different story.

erm......INCORRECT matey. They are both fully musical producers and let me tell you this now, i'm a neptune freak for real and I must say that Chad Hugo is the majority of that neptune sound. Pharrell has always been the front man cause he has been performing for them and is mr cool but Chad is the mastermind here... check out Kenna's albums, chad produced them and see what im talkin about ;)

@cwoherem Oh yeah Chad is more the musician and Pharrell is the one that starts the beat and does all of the songwriting. Chad comes in fills the track up with a lot of instruments, but Pharrell mostly starts out that track on the keys or piano!!
