The Jan Savitt band with Carlotta Dale doing "You Go to my Head" is my favorite recording of this tune, but now also dig this arrangement with Bea Wain singing it. Still Carlotta Dale's darkly extremely beautiful voice is what I hear when I think of this song.

The 'for radio only' recording on "Hindsight Records" is the very best version. There both the band and Ms. Wain put their very best emotion into the song, and it isn't rushed for the short time allowance of a 10" 78 rpm record. Always one of my favorite songs. Sends tingles through my body. Always better with a cigarette, but I don't smoke anymore.

Dark clouds were looming over the world during that time period but when songs like this hit the airwaves kindling the flame of the human heart, the Heavenly Powers were enchanted and persuaded. The price was high but the fix was in, and everyone cashed in on V-E Day! Love the sound quality on this:)

J. Fred Coots, far from being a "one-hit-wonder", composed a number of hits - most in the 1930s - including such standards as Love Letters in the Sand, I Still Get a Thrill (Thinking of You), For All We Know (We May Never Meet Again), Louisiana Fairytale (a huge hit for Fats Waller), and Santa Clause is Coming to Town. If you don't recognize the name, you will the tune. Bea Wain - incredibly beautiful and sensitive singer, woman and person.

I disagree; no the Goodman/Tilton isn't, and it is not even close. Folks can compare by finding a free mp3 of the Goodman/Tilton over in MySpace if they do a search there, and then their ears can plainly hear what a wide gap in the creative arrangements of the band, and also how much more conviction and sublety is in Ms. Wain's delicate handling of the vocal. Benny Goodman didn't hit a home run each time he came to the plate, but it is Clinton & Wain & Co. clearing the fence this time here.

@andrewssisterfan I love this version very much, too. However, both of Billie Holiday's versions (her version from same year of 1938 and Holiday's remake of 1952, are every bit the equal or better of this version, but I still don't want to take ANYTHING away (if you can believe that) from the sweet and lovely and perfectly rendered version by Ms. Wain (Weinsier) and Larry C.
