because this song is from 2001, and sounds TOO rock for 2001 :) the latter pop stars like Avril Lavigne or Katy Perry could benefit more of using distorted guitars in a pop song (many songs also written by Max Martin like this), but in 2001 actually NO ONE could rise to international stardom using traditional rock arrangements (remember that even an album titled "who needs guitars anyway" exists from 2000 - since then Alice Deejay sank to the unknown, guitars are still widely used :)))) )
