Pareciera que el aria le queda grande y que llega al final de la misma con gran dificultad. Es cierto que es un aria muy difícil, pero un tenor profesional de su fama no debería dejar ver las costuras. Incluso, en las coloraturas entre 2:20 y 2:26, la orquesta tiene que frenar el tempo para poder seguirlo lo cuál se oye terrible. En más de una ocasión, sobre todo al final en donde se nota cansado, golpea las notas iniciales no se si para darle dramatismo a la frase o simple último estertor antes de caer exhausto. De solo verlo y escucharlo uno queda cansado y sin aire :)

I don't understand why people are criticising his coloratura? I think he is fantastic because the dramatic impetus informs the coloratura - something that most singers don't think about. I like this role a little bit more 'raw' and unpolished as it shows the dramatic development of Mozart's writing. Idomeneo in my eyes is a dramatic masterpiece and should be played as one - without restraint. We can hear beauty of sound elsewhere -give me emotion instead for this one!

Can't understand how anyone could fault Streit's reasonably accurate coloratura in this video of this difficult aria. Add to that his semi-heroic sound and his good acting, this video is downright thrilling. Thanks for posting it.

@XPRT10R , I was not trying to offend your criteria on the matter with my comment. Just wanted to observe that all the experts that I, myself, have heard so far (expert singers and vocal experts, as far as I can remember), have always praised the coloratura of this singer. In this particular piece? No, not in this, but in others. Is he performing bad in this one? Well, perhaps you're really better acquainted than I am. I am more familiar with the difficulties of femenine voices, must admit.

@Davccelion Really?."ALL experts"? ALL? Do you have names and quotations? Experts of what specifically? Vocal experts, or Mozart experts or coloratura experts? Are you an expert? I consider myself an expert.; an expert ear, that is, So expert infact that I stay well clear from attempting things that are WAY beyond my means. A discretion and restraint which is not applied by ALL singers (or indeed experts). I have loved Streit in many things but THIS is not good. Most experts maybe. ALL? NO!
