Amazing control! Great stage presence. I had the pleasure and honor of seeing him live a few times. He was incredible! Very nice too. Once he sat at my table preshow and just chatted it up with me. See him live if you can!

So great to hear this again. Didn't realise it was Theodore Roethke before, should have known, great poet! So admire the technical skill to perform this.

“The Waking” —by THEODORE ROETHKE Kurt Elling, vocals | Rob Amster, bass, featured on Kurt Elling's 2007 Concord Records "Nightmoves" compact discI wake to sleep, and take my waking slow. I feel my fate in what I cannot fear. I learn by going where I have to go.We think by feeling. What is there to know? I hear my being dance from ear to ear. I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.Of those so close beside me, which are you? God bless the Ground! I shall walk softly there, And learn by going where I have to go.Light takes the Tree; but who can tell us how? The lowly worm climbs up a winding stair; I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.Great Nature has another thing to do To you and me; so take the lively air, And, lovely, learn by going where to go.This shaking keeps me steady. I should know. What falls away is always. And is near. I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow. I learn by going where I have to go.

Him and Jamie Foxx have similar tones and chord closure. Hands down two of the greatest voices.

what you dont know is i told my mate to put any song on for me! I didn"t even know who Kurt Elling was, it was only after i saw it on Jools Holland i realised i had sung an exact interpretation. I even had a bit of Doner stuck in my teeth, but it seems to of helped..

I feel the same buglerbilly - I thought my musical tastes were pretty eclectic but discovering this guy and the musos he works with has opened my ears to a new form of musical wonder. Thank you for posting - great stuff......

I just watched this on the old Jools Holland show, blew me away with the sheer beauty and elegance of the performance and the singing....the bass player is a bloody marvel as well! This just shows I've been living under a rock for a number of years, I've never heard of Kurt Ellin prior to this...........I'll be listening to a Hell of a lot more from now on!!! Life is wonderful, real beauty does exist!!!
