It makes sense. It's telling a story. If it's not from the life of the singer herself, then it's about how the 'character' feels silenced and treated as a sex object. She has a chair that somehow becomes very meaningful to her, as inanimate objects sometimes can be to people when they don't feel connected to or heard by other people--they use objects to project their emotions onto and find some form of communication from. The character finds an outlet by writing on the chair.11 years ago

I remember being in such awe the first time I heard this song. Not only was the music beautiful, but the lyrics surprised me with how profound they were--I was a lot younger then and hadn't started listening to many songs with deep and layered meaning yet.
