Kris Kristofferson-Why Me Lord - Casino Rama/Orillia-8-21-2010

What an awesome night. Just Kris, his guitar and harmonica like when I saw him a few years ago at Convocation Hall at U.of T. in Toronto. Back in May 1973 at Massey Hall he had Rita Coolidge and his band but so many songs he sang back then seemed more poignant last night. He's a poet singing of love, faith, social causes and family. I think it was Merle Haggard who said of Kris: 'he can't carry a tune in a bucket but man he can sing!" So true. He has no pretensions about his vocal or guitar skills, gently mocking himself in between songs. His genius is in the words, add in some aching melodies, that soulful voice full of a life lived and he's a mesmerizing prescence onstage at 74 years young. This was his 3rd and last song in his encore.

@TKP46 Federation Hall? - Do you mean Convocation Hall @ U.of T.? I saw him there several years ago. And also at Ontario Place/Forum in the 80's...

@lightfootfan Did you ever go see him at the Dymond club in TO on Sherbourne Street I think. I liked his shows there. You could stand on the dance floor just a few feet away from him - loved it.. Then after the show, you could go talk to the guys on the bus while waiting for Kris - the good old days!

@touttamoi - I really was annoyed with the people coming in late and all those who got up and wandered around during the whole show..one reason I'm not keen on Casino shows. People are rude. So many around me knew only a few tunes, some got up and left after about an hour..so rude. Convocation Hall was a great venue as was Massey Hall (1973).even Ontario Place Forum with the rotating stage back in 1982 was terrific. I was just looking at pics I took over the years..none from Con Hall tho.

Thanks for sharing this. I was there too on Saturday night - he put on a great show. It's just too bad that some of the people in the audience were only there because they had free tickets, they knew nothing about the man or his music and poetry ... people coming in late and leaving during the performance. I found that extremely rude. I hope his next concert in Ontario will be at a smaller more intimate venue with only true fans in attendance like it was at Convocation Hall in 2006.
