Kris wrote this song with Shel Silvertein, who wrote tons and tons of songs for others including A Boy Named Sue and all the great early stuff from Dr.Hook. Look him up if you don't know about Shel, you'll be surprised what an amazing songwriter, poet and artist he was.

On the album (yes, I still have it), he gives special thanks to "The Lady for her help on 'The Taker.' " I've always heard it's Joan Baez, but no one has ever said for sure. I totally believe it though.

Tell me the backup vocals are not Joan Baez. If not, then who? Dang sounds just like Joan. After about 2:08 I hear Joan Baez. Maybe it's her and it's common knowledge to the entire world other than me. Either way, this is one of my favorite parent's albums I listened to growing up. What a great writer. I heard his memory is failing these days. Dang... sorry to hear about that. You da' man Kris!

He's still around but had a bout with throat cancer. I believe he had a concert somewhere last summer. They are the best, aren't they?
