R.I.P Ernest Borgnine

"Kiss the world goodbye" from Kris's album "Borderlord", 1972. Of course I love this classic song of Kris...

The scenes are from the movie "Convoy", 1978

The more often I watched the movie the more I really loved it... I love the irony that is in some scenes... and the truckers acting like cowboys...

"a macho male affair... " lol

One thing is pretty sure, it probably has inspired lots of boys to become a truck driver ... The power of trucks and their drivers ... and their attraction to the girls... But maybe not in the States (???) The movie was much more successful in Europe than it was in the US.

One funny thing about the shooting, it overran by more than a week and the producers also had to allow for a month's break while Kris had to head off on tour. It even was written in Kris' contract that he had every other weekend off to fullfill recording and performing commitments...

Well, Kris is a songwriter and performer too and he was about recording "Easter Island" and "Natural act" I guess...

This is one of the two movies that are still broadcasted regularly on German TV - the other one is Billy the kid, and both were directed by Sam Peckinpah...

These are some of Kris's words about him,

"He was our hero, boys, he took the bullet

But he went down swingin' his fist from the floor

You can ask any working girl south of the border

Sam Peckinpah era un hombre for sure..."

There also were some troubles on the set and they were almost to fire Sam Peckinpah. But at that crises meeting, Kris promptly stood up and said that if Sam was fired, he would quit the movie. Kris about that,

" I guess I was hot enough then that they gave a shit. Afterwards I'm walking back to my truck and Sam comes out and says, 'Goddam you, you stupid sob - I was almost outa here and you dropped me back in this shit!'"

Sam Peckinpah died in 1984 at the age of 59.

Kiss the world goodbye

I never had no regrets, boys;

Not for nothing I've done.

I owed the devil some debts, boys,

Paid them all up but one.

And I don't even regret the living

That I'll be leaving behind.

I've gotten weary of searching

For something I couldn't find.

I'm going down to the shade

By the river one more time,

And feel the breeze on my face before I die.

I'm gonna leave whatever's left of my luck to the losers,

Then bend me down and kiss the world goodbye.

Come to lucky-in-lovin'

I never had no complaints.

They never said I was evil,

But then, I wasn't no saint.

I'm just a river that rolled forever

And never got to the sea.

I ain't blaming nobody;

I had it coming to me.

I'm going down to the shade

By the river one more time,

And feel the breeze on my face before I die.

I'm gonna leave whatever's left

Of my luck to the losers,

Then bend me down, and kiss the world goodbye.
