A former member of British lovers rock trio Brown Sugar (along with with Pauline Catlin and former Soul II Soul member Caron Wheeler.

Her first solo single was "Place in the Sun." Later she released an album on Mad Professor's Ariwa Records, Black...With Sugar. "Proud of Mandela," a remake of a song from her debut, reached the top of the reggae charts in 1990.
