"Hard Luck Woman" is a song by the American hard rock band Kiss and the lead single from their 1976 album, Rock and Roll Over. The song was originally written by Kiss guitarist Paul Stanley as a possible track for Rod Stewart, but after the success of the ballad "Beth", Kiss decided to keep it for themselves as a follow-up.

Sung by drummer Peter Criss, the band was trying to follow the success of the hit single "Beth" released earlier in the year by releasing another love song sung by Criss. The plan worked, as the single proved to be a Top 20 hit in the U.S., peaking at #15.

A "live" version of "Hard Luck Woman" appears on Kiss's 1977 Alive II album; although, it was later revealed that the song was recorded in an empty warehouse with an audience overdub for a live feel.

I like his total performance here, (Okay, I know he's lip synching) but I like his movements with the whole head bobbing and twitching, just like his Kiss, persona, The Cat. A good job all around. Raise your hands if you thought this was Rod Stewart singing this for all these years!

Love Peter's gravely voice. Reminds me a lot of Rod Stewart.

When I was a kid, Peter Criss was always my designated KISS member. Me and my friends would paint our faces and go raise hell around the neighborhood. Man, I had a great childhood - we left it all on the floor. I feel sorry for my kids generation.

I believe this is about the old NY State Ghostly Legend of "Ocean Borne Mary" which some folks growing up in New York would probably have heard as children. Mary was, the red-haired daughter of a pirate captain and a high borne woman from a foreign shore.who had died leaving the pirate captain a widower father with a little girl, and he knew his profession and the sea was no place to raise a girl. She was brought to the pirate's secluded country home inn upstate New York and funds were left for hrr to be raised and educated in the proper way a daughter of a Queen must be, and to be safe while the captain went off to pillage again at sea. Time passed and Mary awaited her fathers return from sea bu5 he never did return and it was never known why. She grew into womanhood with beautiful long red hair and many suitors asked for her hand in marriage st that country farm but she never married because she wanted to wait for her father's blessing. She died an "Old Maid," a "Spinster" at that same property which she inherited eventually . The story is that she haunts what is now a State Historic Home in upstate in New York. I read of this tale as a boy in the 1970s in one one of the famous paranormal author Hans Holzer's, now deceased, many books entitled something like "Ghosts of New York and New England." It's a well known legend of area which aligns exactly.with the lyrics of this song right down to the legendary red hair of "Ocean Borne Mary.". Check it out for yourself.

Sing it Peter! Baby! That man had a voice! He made you FEEL what he was singing about! No disrespect or less love for Gene, Paul, or Ace of course!! I was a baby girl in kindergarten when my older sister used to drag me everywhere til I had blisters on my feet, and the (new) music of that time went with us. Kiss was just one of my earliest loves. I knew all the song lyrics to "Love Gun" & "Destroyer" Albums probably before I knew how to write my name. That was a lifetime ago now, I love the music of the 70's. I'm a true lover of all music. Life would cease for me without it. A solid Rock N Roll Lover at heart, and Kiss for sure Stole My Love from the earliest of my days living in this World Without Hero's. So much Love & Respect Always, Thx for the endless hours of "Life" boys!
