This is exactly right. So, when Gene and Paul said, to much criticism, that Vinnie went too far with guitar solos and had to be brought back down to earth, they were right after all.

I think that VV's solo is indicative of the kind of player that he was. The fact that Derringer played the solo on the album version doesn't mean anything, necessarily. Bob Kulick and Dick Wagner both subbed for Ace. Bruce played on Animalize (along with solo segments from PAUL) instead of St John and Bruce was replaced by Wagner on Revenge for a solo. NO member of KISS has played all their own parts on every cd. Even Eric carr played bass on a few songs. So it really doesn't matter.
