Formed under the name The Edge, originally as a four-piece. Changed name to Sneak Preview after Kirk Henderson left and finally to King's X in the mid 80s.
In 1990, vocalist/bassist Doug Pinnick was asked by Deep Purple to join as a replacement for vocalist Ian Gillan, but he turned them down. Doug Pinnick also did guest vocals for Dream Theater on their Falling into Infinity album. Jerry Gaskill also did guest drums on the Supershine album which featured bandmate Doug Pinnick. Ty Tabor and Jerry Gaskill have both released solo material.
In 1998, Doug Pinnick and King's X were subjected to blacklisting and hatred from the Christian music media when he came out as gay in a Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) interview. He has abandoned Christianity because of this.
