The voice. It’s an instrument. The greatest singers are not just singers - they are musicians. Because the voice is an instrument.
Strip away everything and you can be left with just the voice. And when the voice is exposed it can be a very lonely place.
The greatest exponents of this – the most versatile instrument – can take us to another place with their interpretation. Singers can touch your heart. They can make you smile, they can make you cry. They can stir memories of the past or present. The best make you forget where you are, even for just a fleeting moment. This is the power, the wonder of something so simple as a voice.
Kinga K is a cool, sultry singer from Poland. She is studying jazz at the world-renowned Leeds College of Music . Her new single “Here With You” is not a jazz record, but it does draw on years of listening to musicians and singers who have shaped this emerging talent.
Listen to this love song, as Kinga K does in the opening shots of the video, with your eyes closed. You could be in a jazz club, or a summer festival, or sat on the beach watching the eternal tide.
The song’s waves wash over you from the beginning, starting with the melancholy pared-down piano accompaniment. As the voice takes hold the mellifluous strings drift in and stay throughout like an undercurrent below the mighty waves. Half way through the verse a clever key change takes you to the chorus. And Kinga K says “ I am always here with you”. And you can believe it.
