I remember seeing this when first broadcast--it was if Goodman were 35 years younger and he was playing as great as ever. I think it was because he had truly excellent band with him here--you can tell he knows it, too! I briefly met Mr. Goodman in my teens around 1979 and he was as friendly as could be--what a thrill that was! Thanks for sharing this!

Yes . . . we can't forget that Fletcher Henderson is the more influential figure, the uncrowned king of swing

I saw the Duke Ellington Orchestra play in Hong Kong and the way the songs were structured with the leader pointing at the soloists, and that was pressured enough. Imagine if Benny Goodman, THE king of swing was your band leader.

Very fine tenor solo--I liked that too. Buy far the highlight of the peice--other than the work itself! As always, then, a completely outstanding arrangement by Fletcher Henderson!!!

@saxhaggis Really? I've only heard him play the clarinet in Benny Goodman style and a Tiger Rag with Frank Vignola. Well, now I can understand why he's so good, he was part of the best! :)

Ke used to appear every year at the Sarasota jazz festival. The last time I saw him was in 2006 when he was leading a big band in a BG tribute. He is an outstanding clarinet player.

The tenor player is Ken Peplowski. Isn't he fantastic!! Huge, swinging tone!
