after his daughters FIRST NAME, as Vespucci did, but unfortunately Amerigo Vespucci's wife died giving birth also taking the life of his daughter, he intended to christen "America". In consolation, Queen Isabella granted Vespucci the honor of naming the continent. BTW, on this album, "Scotland" and "the boy who ate lasagna and jumped over a church" equally share honors of my KM faves on this album. my all-time fave is from DP called "Sink".... @scottbaioisdead... my source for this is atending my professor's lectures on the subject from attending Oxford University in 1985. It was a tiny factoid from his PhD dissertation, Dr. Louis Turansky. If you think i'm in error and you persist in your beliefs, so be it. The point is, its a hilariously funny song that contains an extremely little known truth. Just enjoy the music! Vespucci chose "America" (Latin feminine first name), just like Daimler chose to name his brand of car "Mercedes"

In fact, "america" is the feminine Latin form of the FIRST NAME of the Roman cartographer Amerigo Vespucci, and the nomenclature of his cartographic efforts was his compensation granted to him by his egoistic attempts at being ingratiating to the royal court of Queen Isabella of Spain, who financed Columbus's expeditions. It is a matter of extreme Italian nationalistic pride.
