This song makes my nipples stiffer than bullets and also gives me a sudden urge to kick a new born baby in the teeth, deep fry it and put on a Big Mac then force feed it to an orphan, why? because then I can laugh at it and adopt it.

'i ran into an orphanage, and set the place alight... i pissed on the ashes as the kids howled into the night. i stole all of their crutches and beat an old lady to death... i would've apologised but death made her deaf" better lyrics right there XD

As emotional a song as ever written without being twee. As fantastic today as the day it was released.

35 years later, and I still can't hear this song without breaking down and blubbering. Simply amazing. There is no one else like this man.

I first heard this when I was travelling in Australia in 1981. Loved it, bought it when I returned home. Still speaks to me as a small town boy growing up doing adventures, above all learning about life and it's beauty. Tom Waits is an incredible musician. One of his best songs and will always bring a tear to my eye.

Che io sia una sua precocissima reincarnazione?! No no, ci sono: è quel famigerato zio che abita in California...!

This is a far better "version" of the idea of "i don't wanna grow up" the the later song of the same name by Tom...

bought the album 1979 or 1980 when it came out. this is why, simply the most beautiful song about childhood and nothing else touches this, he is truly the master and i believe every word

Very nice, but discovering Captain Beefheart & Russian modernism circa Swordfishtrombones did him a world of good.
