Effects have nothing to do with talent. It's just about what tone or sound your trying to achieve for a song. Look at Satriani. He is no stranger to effects and I would not exactly say he has no talent.

No i was saying that when you are as good as he is the effects are secondary to his talent. Some musicians over use effects to offset their lack of talent/skill. He uses them correctly because he is in total command. I see how my first statement was a bit confusing.
