True story.  When I was in Vietnam in '69, this song was played heavily on the radio.  Every time he got to the end and sang "...And if I could move I'd get my gun and put her in the ground", you would almost always hear a cheer go up.,

An update on composer Mel Tillis'heavy lyric-It wasn't me who started that ol'crazy Afgan war.

I was the real life Ruby! I loved, I understood, I never broke any laws... Just the bad luck of love for a man in a uniform! It's hard to stay with a man in the military... the odds are against you both! Look at it that way!

What a bautiful, poignant ballad by the greatest voice in Country Music. Love to listen to Kenny.

Seconds after my alarm clock radio turned on one morning, I first heard this song. In my half awake state, I listened to the lyrics much more than I normally would. It really bummed me out. For the rest of the day the song rattled around in my mind, as I thought about friends that had been maimed or never returned from that "crazy Asian war".

I'm from that era, but not a 'nam vet. I spent 31 years at Ford in All three Cleveland plants. In '07. medical reasons forced me to take the buy-out and retire. Everything attached to my pelvis was shot, L2 included. I got my left hip replaced, but too little too late. I'm in a chair most of the time, can barely walk with a cane. Walker helps a little. But my little wife is fine. She and my live at home handsome sons take her to the Baptist church he likes, rather than out catholic church. She listens to him, now fixes her hair, wears dress and overcoat to church. Won't take me, 'cause it's, " too much walking". Now I hear those same spirits that used to ask for help telling me things. We are both sensitives, but I think I hear BS? I hope it is, and not this song repeating itself?...
