Also, the musicians sing flawless harmonies AND actually play live. Whatever happened to live music? My heart tells me somehow, someway it'll come back and the world will wonder how they ever bought into the crap being put out now.

Amazing and under appreciated(IMO) voice. Of course the Midas Touch of Michael doesn't hurt to have on your track. Awesome song.

Incredible studio like performance. Back up vocals are superb. HBO...wow. Thanks for posting

This song was the song that first introduced me to Kenny Loggins back in 1982. Things were so much simpler then and music was truly crafted by gifted musicians and artists.

in the original key of G vs the newer live versions where they drop it down a whole step to F. Too bad they rushed it here like a rock tune; they lost the groove. Nevertheless Loggins is awesome!

1982 was a transitional time in the music business.

"This is it" was the one that did it for me as i was 9 yrs old at my earliest memory of listening to it (1979). I found out about 10yrs ago he actually wrote the song for his father who at that time was fighting cancer. How proud his father must have been? Take care

i remember watching this at 12yrs old on HBO. Also, i recall the Doobie Bros Farewell Tour aired on HBO around same time frame although they reunited again in 1989. Great memories and great post!

I thought Foster and Loggins both wrote this...? And I thought M. McDonald was also mentioned? I could be wrong.

I hadn't considered in 1982 that the potential public backlash of leather pants could cast such doubt on the talent and musicianship of Kenny Loggins. (Although, the Jesus beard and white gauze shirts era... I am surprised that lightning didn't strike him then.)

a HUGE part of this song is David Foster, though - he's the songwriter (and producer) on it. But yeah, Loggins is -definitely- not just the "Danger Zone" guy (which is his worst song by far).
