I remember watching this with my then-boyfriend and telling him we didn't have to watch another episode after that performance. The season had just started and she won the whole thing at that moment. I still, to this day, think this is the moment she won the show.

No one could give a performance like this on any singing competition now. The judges on every show (x factor, voice, AI, etc) all give standing o's like they're nothing now, back in the day (haha) you really had to earn it....and I thought this definitely did.

Yeah as alwasy Simon is an IDIOT ! Can't remember my butt ! Simon must always feel like he is someones master teacher so in Kelly's instance he knew right away she was already a star requiring absolutely none of his coaching and help. However, American Idol "the show" did launch Kelly's career ! ! ! An all time great singer !
