Today Fox announced Idol will see it's last season next January 2016, which will be season 15 due to steady declining ratings since 2008. I think among other things contributing to the demise of the show, some things they got away from were having them sing power classics like this, and no longer doing the makeover on the final ten remaining contestants. Plus the judges have become too lenient.
