From Kekal's third release, The Painful Experience (2002). This album marked Kekal's initial departure from their loose adherence to traditional black metal conventions, as well as the beginning of what would be several stylistic transformations until Kekal became whatever it is now. Jeff Arwadi expressed in an interview that The Painful Experience marked the start of their new direction, adding "We didn't leave the metal behind.. Jefray Arwadi encouraged KEKAL fans to post the band's older material. Although the three main contributors left the band in 2009, they continue to write and produce music for the memberless project.
