Ok, thought two, which will anger some that love and follow Kaite.... (I'm not a hater, just voicing my opinion)....The orchestra is a stroke of genius, whoever wrote the orchestral baking score deserves a pat on the back... As well as a grammy and a MTV music award etc......but on the vocals on the chorus are we not hearing perfect 3rds 5ths even dominant 7ths at times dropping or climbing to reach their part in what most would consider to be root chords..... With such an amazing orchestral backing which plays all these variables why doesn't Katie (Katie plus choir) sing them.... she chooses to sing a few of these notes as a solo performer at the end of the track.... which as she's not an operatic virtuoso kinda fails for me.... if she's gone for it with the support of an orchestra and fellow choir she would have masked the frailties in her voice...... perhaps, what do I know.... She's Katie Melua and I'm a nobody who no one read this far to tell me off for....8 years ago

Such a beautiful piece, orchestrated wonderfully..... but in the whole process of writing this piece why did no producer, composer, co-writer not tell Katie to use the obvious upper 9chord harmony.... i.e. one on the "I'll always care" or "I will be there" at the chorus, go for a vocal 9 dropping down to a perfect 3rd by the time she's singing "there" or "care"...... Perhaps this is too obvious and it's why she didn't do it, but sometimes cheesy and obvious are what a song craves..... In my opinion it would have made it better. Whenever I'm singing along it's the obvious note to go for..... She sings it at the end by the time the momentum of the song has left so I can only assume she always knew that harmony was there...... I get musicians trying to be clever and leaving things to be suggestive and open to interpretation, but sometimes artists just need to entertain and do the hard work leaving the listener with a perfect song. Abba did it time and time again, it's why on an average day Abba are played numerous times and Katie only a few across the world.... personally I prefer Katie’s work, but this song is another demonstration of not completing things to their fullest potential........ Please please please work with better producers!!!8 years ago
