Charted at #50 on Billboard Hot 100 in June 1958. Kathy's follow-up single to her Top 10 hit, "Billy", which I've also posted. Like "Billy", this is a remake of a hit from the early 1900's. "You'd Be Surprised" was sung by Eddie Cantor in the Ziegfeld Follies of 1919. It was very popular in 1920 charting at #3 for Eddie Cantor, #8 for Irving Kaufman and #8 for the All-Star Trio. Bonnie Baker, with Orrin Tucker and His Orchestra, charted at #5 with a revival version in 1940, and Johnnie Ray charted with another at #25 Billboard Pop in 1954. Kathy's was the last remake of the song to chart in Billboard.
Original Billboard review: "The chick appears a good bet to repeat the success of her current smash "Billy" with either of these two strong sides. Her Wee Bonnie Baker treatment is highly effective. "Surprised" is a ballad with beat. "Why" is a polka-type."
Written by Irving Berlin.
B-side is "Why Oh Why".
