Another great song from "The Kick Inside".

Lyrics:

James, come on home.

You've been gone too long, baby.

We can't let our hero

Die alone.

We miss you day and night.

You left town to live by the rifle.

You left us to fight,

But it just ain't right to take away the light.

Remember Genie from the casino?

She's still a-waiting in that big brass bed.

The boys from your gang are knocking whisky back,

'Til they get out of hand and wish they were dead.

They're only lonely for the life that they led

With their old friend.

Ooh, James, are you selling your soul to a cold gun?

Selling your soul to a

Ooh, James, are you selling your soul to a cold gun?

Where lies your heart?

It's not there in the buckskin, baby.

It's not there in the gin

That makes you laugh long and loud.

You're a coward, James.

You're running away from humanity.

You're running away from reality.

It won't be funny when they rat-a-tat-tat you down.

Ooh, James, are you selling your soul to a cold gun?

what an artist ! I guess David Gilmour influenced a little in making of this song, rhythm reminds me of the P.Floyd's album "Animals" from 1977...anyway,Kate was very young when she wrote all those great songs,at that age I didn't know what a Chord was. Gotta love her talent and beauty !

Though this is entirely unrelated to James Bond, I could see this song as an opening for one of its older movies! Sure, there would have to be some changes, but those instrumental parts with the guitars are very "Bondish"!

cool, how do you get to that? obv. its just my take I have met her many times and frankly don't care if no one believes me. No she didn't tell me what the song is about, I wouldn't ask. I would genuinely be interested in how you came to that conclusion..excuse the joke, I didn't mean to be rude.

mate, this obv. a joke?!...no? How could you even follow it. lol "she changed her mind again"...."except Kate who stuck to her guns" how could that be!!! >_<

Where did you get that information? Every source I have read or heard says clearly that Kate wanted "Wuthering Heights" as the first single all along. It was EMI who had to change their mind in the end.

No, the song is not about war. It's about a gangster or a gunman.

No Kate wanted that one first but changed her mind then EMI liked this one and she changed her mind again! then EMI decided maybe they where wrong and changed there minds too!! but in the end they all agreed...except Kate who stuck to her guns.

Sure,lol..Its really an anti-war song, about how a young man going off to war affects a small community, 'the boys from the gang' have lost there way, the good old days are gone..for what? Has he sold his soul for a cold gun was it brave to join and fight or cowardly to 'run out on humanity' and ultimately..life That's all >_< ofcourse it may mean something different to you?
