It's so obviously "rose" growing old because she's refering to the notion of beauty/youth, fading and withering. Just because she suddenly says "and I feel like a waltz"..... and the music tempo goes into a waltz ,is just a demonstration of how she enjoys playing with music, words and emotion....and if you don't believe me, just look on the back of the "Shrubberies" CD to see that the song is actually called ...."Rose Growing Old"....(Or maybe Kate herself has got it wrong? )

I just discovered an old recorded interview wherein Kate discusses this particular demo, stating that she was 15yrs old at the time. The interviewer asks if he may play it and she replies, "I think I will shut my ears."
