Indeed, it's the same song from Lucia Di Lammermoor, Il dolce suono, or 'The Mad Scene' aria, and was actually mentioned in the original novel of the Count of Monte Cristo. It's fascinating to see it in another unrelated science fiction setting, isn't it? :P

Yes. You are right. The aria from the fifth element and this one are one in the same. The aria is called Il Dolce Suono...if you notice the first words actually are "Il Dolce Sueno" in fact if you listen to this:Gaetano Donizetti - Lucia di Lammermoor - "Il dolce suono" (Joan Sutherland) (1959)....you will notice that they are the same...same beginning and everything...That is the soprano part that i am talking about...the woman in the beginning...
