Azagthoth Edinnazu

Since a few people seem to be confused i figured i'd answer a couple things:1. "Isn't azag-thoth a lovecraft thing?"Yes, azathoth is a god in lovecraft's work, however azag-thoth is also the name of a god in the simon necronomicon, which is based heavily on sumerian/babylonian magickal ideas.2. "I misheard the first line"the first line of the song is "azag-thoth edinnazu", the start of an exorcism incantation from the necronomicon which shares the name of the song title.Judging from the other tracks from sanders, he's either a practicing occultist familiar with necronomicon magick, or just REALLY into the symbolism, enough so to make two albums dedicated to the sumerian gods. Examples: saurian meditation had an invokation of ishtar. The last track title of saurian exorcisms mentions the "aga mass ssaratu", the sacred fire from the watcher invokation.

People need to understand, that there is a war going on behind the scenes between Karl and Trey Azagthoth of Morbid Angel. A spiritual battle, in which Karl and Trey use their music as malevolent sorcery against one another. Karl is clearly winning and has driven Trey into madness (judging from the recent Morbid Angel album).

The "Azagthoth" spelling comes from the Simon Necronomicon, a hoax edition of Lovecraft's fictional grimoire written (most likely) by Peter Levenda in the '70s under the assumed name of "Simon" (or it was "discovered" by Simon, if you believe its own account). It's a half-assed mish-mash of garbled Sumerian mythology and garbled Lovecraftian mythology, and changes the spelling of all the deities. Trey Azagthoth got his name from it, and lots of metal bands have cribbed from it over the years.

Cthulhu is not summoned by speaking his name. He sleeps in his tomb beneath the sea "until the stars are right," at which point he will awaken and rise to the surface whether anyone likes it or not. The whole idea of the Cthulhu Mythos is that mankind is puny and insignificant, and can do nothing to alter the plans of the Great Old Ones. As for Azathoth, he's the primordial chaos bubbling at the center of the Universe. He rules whether you name him or not.

Trey Azagthoth. IIRC, Sanders mentioned in an interview of the song being a humorous jab at Trey.

Azaghthoth is an omnipotent idiot god that sleeps in the center of the universe, and if awoken, will destroy everything (if my memory serves me right...) in H.P.Lovecraft´s stories.
