Karl singing at Steptoe's Benidorm in 1995 and showing, how even in his later years, his voice still had that unique quality that had gained him many fans in the early 1960's. This song, Marcheta, was his first big hit in the UK - There are a few more versions of this song on YouTube but this video gives us the chance to see him in action.

As this song was written in 1912 I believe it to be in the public domain and as Ron who shot the video has agreed we have permitted adverts on it - any resulting revenue (very unlikely*) will be donated to St. Ann's Hospice, where Karl spent his last days.

*It is estimated that possibly 60,000 views would be required to reach the minimum for any payment to be made. But who knows ? ☺

Definitely one of the best UK country singers - not not so well known outside the UK. The reason I've chosen this video is that any advertising revenue will go to the hospice where Karl spent his last days. He seems to have gathered more fans posthumously. Video quality isn't too good - but it's live from 1995.

I would like to add I had a great night at Steptoe's when I video'd this footage and the place was absolutely packed. Also Karl spent half an hour chatting to me and my family after the show. A very Special Talent and a Friend. RIP. Ron and Family.

I think most of the audience did appreciate what they were hearing, a few noisy kids didn't stop Karl - unlike many other performers might have done - he didn't throw a hissy fit - he just outsang them!
